Glowing Beyond the Glam: A Model's Guide to Healthy Skin
When it comes to advertisements for Estee Lauder, Maybelline, L’Oreal, and Lancome, the common denominator is the portrayal of flawless, glass-like skin. Despite the airbrushing and tedious editing behind these images, the process is far from ideal. Extensive editing translates to more time and money invested in every campaign. As a model, the assignment extends beyond selling a product but to also minimize the time and cost required for that perfect shot. This can include achieving the shot in fewer frames, maintaining peak energy levels throughout the photoshoot, and nurturing the skin for a flawless makeup finish.
To keep my skin clear of blemishes, maintain a smooth texture, and address any hyperpigmentation, I adhere to a diligent skincare routine with a purpose. Recognizing that as a model my face is my money maker, I’ve incorporated various products and treatments into my regime to maintain healthy skin.
Regular visits to Sienna Dermatology, where my dermatologist and medical esthetician are based, have been transformative for my skin. In the initial stages of my skincare journey, I received hydrafacials every four months which is a "light chemical exfoliation" involving exfoliation, extraction, and infusion. Although the results are immediate, it's a long-term investment in skin health. As a loyal client since 2020, I now opt for these treatments approximately every six months. With every visit, not only am I educated on my particular skin type but also on specific ingredients I should look for and stay away from, how often I should engage in certain skincare activities, as well as my overall skin health and how to preserve it as I age.
Complimenting these regular treatments, my daily routine includes a carefully selected morning and nighttime skincare regimen. In the morning, I use the gentle Purifying Cleanser Gel by SkinCeuticals, followed by the prescribed Clindamycin Phosphate Gel and Blemish + Age Defense Acne Treatment by SkinCeuticals recommended by Dr. Puryear. Given my dry skin, I seal in hydration with Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Water Gel. Particularly, Elta MD Skincare UV Clear SPF 46 for acne-prone skin completes my morning routine.
At night, my routine is concise, starting with the trusty Purifying Cleanser Gel by SkinCeuticals, followed by the prescribed Tretinoin Cream to address excess oils. Once again, I turn to Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Water Gel to moisturize and conclude the night.
It's important to note that skincare varies based on individual skin types and concerns such as hormones, stress, and diet. Before attempting any new products or services, consulting with a doctor is crucial. If you decide to explore these recommendations, share your experiences, or suggest other products worth trying!
Love & Light,
Lauryn Victoria
